Book Club: More Than Reading

Holly St. Jean

If you’re looking for a way to exercise your reading skills, a great after school activity that will encourage you to do so is Tantasqua’s Book Club. Run by Ms. St. Jean, the club meets on the third Wednesday of each month to discuss the previously chosen book. They read books of varying genres and styles, including contemporary, classic, mystery, dystopian, fantasy, non-fiction, and poetry. Each novel is chosen by the student in attendance. Ms. St. Jean comments on how she is “always amazed and impressed by the variety of genres that students want to explore.” The book that is currently being read by the club’s participants is titled The Measure, written by the up-and-coming author Nikki Erlick. The next meeting will take place on January 11th from 2:10 to 3:15 in room 3124.

Besides the expected analysis of the book that has been read, you will also find yourself enjoying a selection of sweet treats if you choose to attend a book club meeting. These are usually brought in by Ms. St. Jean, but members of the club are welcome to bring in their own to share, as well. This can also be accompanied by watching any movie or series adaptations that may exist for the selected book.

Students are encouraged to join if they consider themselves avid readers or just someone who would like to read more, as it is an engaging and enjoyable way to find like-minded people who share different perspectives on the same experience of reading a story.
